Who are we?

Established in 1993, Safe Kids Clark County is a local nonprofit dedicated to preventing accidental deaths and reducing injuries to children in Clark County, NV and neighboring communities. We are one of more than 600 coalitions that make up Safe Kids Worldwide, a global network with 23 partner organizations. Our coalition brings together a wide range of community members and organizations that include local hospitals and health organizations; law enforcement, fire departments, and EMS; the auto, gaming, retail, and insurance industries; doctors and nurses; parents — and most importantly, kids!

Why do we matter?

More than 1 million families worldwide lose a child each year to a preventable injury. In the U.S. in 2022, over 9,000 children died and about 5.6 million visited emergency rooms for preventable injuries — the leading cause of child death. Many families lack the resources to prevent drownings, car crashes, fires, and falls.

Safe Kids Clark County helps the community stay informed and keep kids safe by focusing on health equity and prevention. We prioritize marginalized and underserved parents and children who face discrimination and barriers to services (racial, ethnic, gender, sexual orientation, economic, cultural, and linguistic), because these groups receive fewer and lower-quality preventive services and less access to care and infrastructure.

Our approach:

  • Commit to health equity so every child has fair access to injury prevention and the opportunity for their best health.

  • Use an intersectional framework (individual, relationship, community, societal) to identify how overlapping social factors compound disadvantage and limit access to education, housing, employment, built environments, and services.

  • Lead with science and proactivity: translate research and data into targeted prevention, anticipate changing injury risks, meet families where they are, and build partnerships to protect the most vulnerable.

  • Change systems and promote sustainability by combining education with policy, regulatory, industry, and community interventions that address root causes; coordinate across levels and create accessible, long-term solutions that build a lasting culture of safety.

Safe Kids Clark County centers the needs of the most at-risk children and families to reduce disparities and prevent needless injuries and deaths.
